Chess: Aronian still third on FIDE rankings

Armenia's strongest chess grandmaster Levon Aronyan has improved his FIDE score but remains in third place ahead of a major tournament due next month.

With 2809 points on the top 100 player list released by international chess's governing body bimonthly Aronian again trails Norwegian chess player Magnus Karlsen, who has 2872 points, and Russian chess grandmaster Vladimir Kramnik, who has 2810 points.

Aronian dropped from second to third places in January after remaining second on the list for a year.

The 31-year-old Armenian is one of the participants of the Candidates' Tournament commencing next month to decide the challenger to the world chess crown.
