Armenian Police chief meets election observers

Chief of Police Vladimir Gasparyan received on Wednesday representatives from the OSCE Offce for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), which conducted an observation mission during the recent presidential election in Armenia.
Greeting the delegation headed by the mission's chief, Heidi Tagliavini, Gasparyan praised their collaboration efforts with the Armenian authorities. He told the guests that the police continue investing their best efforts in ensuring transparent and effective work with both foreign observers and local observers during elections.
Tagliviani said further that observers are also interested in the police response to post-electoral developments.
Gasparyan explained that the police work in a due manner to protect public order and the population's rights during public gatherings.
The police chief emphasized that their function is to do everything within their competences in order to rule out undesired incidents (which also includes the video-recording of gathering), thus preventing acts of provocation and establishing a proper control over the police operations during rallies.
Tagliviani thanked the police chief for detailed and exhaustive remarks.
The meeting further focused on other issues of mutual interest.
