Most political parties in Armenia are still in no rush to clarify their positions on next year's presidential election. Only the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) has stated clearly its stance.
The RPA has stated that it will nominate current President and leader of the party Serzh Sargsyan as its candidate in the February vote. The nomination will take place at the RPA special convention slated for December 15.
The biggest intrigue lies in the position of Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) led by affluent businessman Gagik Tsarukyan whose member, former Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian is tipped as a possible candidate. The PAP that quit the ruling coalition after the May parliamentary election has not yet committed itself to supporting the RPA's candidate – something the party signed a memorandum for last year.
