Some 528 families in the second largest city of Gyumri are participating today in a lottery event to win apartments. A resident from Gyumri told Tert.am that more than 2500 people have come to participate in the lottery causing turmoil there.
Tigran Harutyunyan, head of apartment and infrastructures department at Shirak's governor's office, told Tert.am the turmoil had been caused by misinformation.
"The number of apartments is 528 while 1344 people are registered in the list. On Friday the Urban development ministry assigned Shirak center NGO to notify about the event. One of the TV channels stated about raffling 2-room apartments without noting the exact number of beneficiaries to come. Naturally all the beneficiaries came to the event with their family members," Harutyunyan said. According to him, the Urban Development Ministry is to be blamed for the turmoil, as the governor's office was not provided the list of eligible participants in the lottery.
Advisor to Shirak governor Araxya Kirakosyan told Tert.am that the situation has been smoothed up, the lottery is ongoing in Aragats sport and cultural hall.
"The place of the ceremony has been changed to room more people. Many families are so excited that they have brought with them all the family members and relatives," she said.
