Prime Minister Tigran Sarkisian met with visiting officials from Russia's national space agency on Tuesday to look into the possibility of launching a first-ever commercial satellite owned by Armenia.
A statement by the Armenian government quoted by RFE/RL's Armenian Service said Sarkisian and two deputy directors of the Russian Central Research Institute of Machine Building (TsNIIMash) discussed "prospects for cooperation between the two countries in the area of space." The Russian ambassador in Yerevan, Vyacheslav Kovalenko, also took part in the meeting.
TsNIIMash is part of Russia's Federal Space Agency, which is also known as Roscosmos. It specializes in designing ballistic missiles and spaceships.
