15:52, April 24, 2015

A memorial statue entitled "Rebirth", commemorating the 1915 Armenian Genocide was unveiled today in Gyumri.

Sculptor Frid Soghoyan noted that the cross held aloft in the hands sculpted in touf stone symbolize the inextinguishable hope of the Armenian people.

"I believe that this says it all," said Soghoyan when asked to explain the memorial.

Artur Antonyan, a Moscow resident who proposed the memorial and assisted in its completion, said that Gyumri, Armenia's second largest city, also inspires the hope of rebirth.
