Soccer: Mkhitaryan opts out of penalty kick opportunity to set new Ukrainian record

Armenia international and FC Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan did not accept the offer of his teammate to take a 12-yard penalty kick and thus attempt to set the new goal-scoring record in the Ukrainian Premier League.

Mkhitaryan, who has so far scored 22 goals for his side during the current championship, equals on that record with two other players who scored the same number of goals during one season in independent Ukraine's top division in previous years.

The 24-year-old Armenian was on the pitch when Shakhtar earned the right to a penalty kick in the Sunday game against Dnipro Depropetrovsk.
