The U.S. State Department was not aware that Azerbaijani authorities had banned US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar from visiting an Armenian cemetery in Jugha, as reports Armenpress, citing the U.S. State Department's Victoria Nuland.
Morningstar issued a statement this weekend expressing his regret that he was not allowed to visit the cemetery, where Armenian graves have been desecrated and hundreds of tombstones destroyed, by local Azeris in Nakhijevan.
Azeri officials would not allow the ambassador to go, citing security reasons.
