A monitoring of several Armenian broadcast media conducted by a local watchdog ahead of next year's presidential election has revealed a mostly "passive" political coverage that pretty much reflects the current uncertainty in the political realm.
In conditions of such coverage the incumbent president appears to be a frontrunner, the early survey by the Yerevan Press Club (YPC) shows.
YPC Chairman Boris Navasardyan presented on Monday an interim report on the monitoring conducted from October 1 to November 20 for nine major television channels, with six of them with nationwide coverage (Armenia Public TV, Armenia TV, Yerkir Media, Kentron, Second Armenian Channel, Shant), one television station covering Yerevan (ArmNews), which is mainly a news channel, and two radio stations – Public Radio and Armradio (the latter is being monitored for the first time as it has a 24-hour news coverage and is expected to play a major role in the process of political coverage as well).
