Members of the Prosperous Armenia Party's (PAP) political council held a closed-door meeting last night to discuss, among other issues, nominating a candidate in next year's presidential election.
PAP spokesperson Tigran Urikhanyan is quoted by News.am as saying that the Wednesday meeting summarized the discussions at regional chapters of the party and PAP leader Gagik Tsarukyan was informed on their "preferences" for a presidential candidate.
Asked about the details, Urikhanyan said: "The decision will be made in the near future, in due time."
Earlier today, citing its own sources, the online paper 7or.am suggested that PAP's members attending the meeting urged Tsarukyan to make a presidential bid, assuring their leader that they were ready for the fight. Tsarukyan, as claimed by the news website, said he could not "remain indifferent" seeing the "collapsing country, emigrating people, injustices and widespread corruption."
