An opposition candidate running for parliament in a Yerevan by-election claims that voter lists in his constituency have been "inflated", while the election campaign is proceeding with "flagrant violations" to ensure a victory of the pro-establishment candidate.
Styopa Safaryan, of the Heritage Party, is contesting a seat in the National Assembly from Yerevan's Avan and Nor-Nork districts that was vacated in September by Ruben Hayrapetyan, a ruling Republican Party member, who quit the National Assembly over a deadly incident at a restaurant owned by his extended family.
