The Football Federation of Armenia (FFA) has backed the idea of establishing a soccer championship uniting leagues in some post-Soviet countries now making up the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
In a statement issued on Thursday, the FFA said: "At present, the CIS-member countries have strong teams recognized both domestically and internationally. Nevertheless, we are convinced that it is the competition of the best clubs in the post-Soviet space within the framework of a united CIS championship that will promote the development of soccer both at the club and national teams' levels."
"Conducting tournament this way will give us an opportunity to vie more effectively for the most prestigious international trophies," it added.
