Ex-chief of Joint Staff of Georgia's Armed Forces Giorgi Kalandadze and Commander of the 4th brigade Zaza Shamatava have been arrested in Georgia tonight, Russian Vzglyad reports.
Ex-minister of internal affairs Bacho Akhalaia has also been detained too. President Mikheil Saakashvil's associates say the arrests are politically motivated. Akhalaia was arrested after being called to the General Prosecutor's Office for interrogation."It is a political revenge," Nugzar Tsiklauri, MP from Saakashvili's National United Movement said.
Akhalaia departed abroad after the parliamentary elections and returned on November 5. He said he was in Germany and Turkey.Earlier Tert.am reported that Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance Sozar Subari stated that he has "enough grounds" to charge ex-minister of internal affairs.
