Minister praises rescuers for construction sites, aerial tramway operations

Armenian Minister of Emergency Situations Armen Yeritsyan has praised the professionalism of rescuers who involved in recent operations in Yerevan and the Syunik province.

Rescue teams of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) participated in the efforts on a construction site in downtown Yerevan where 11 people were trapped after a building collapse on Thursday. Several of the constructors received grave injuries, but no one was killed in that accident.

Rescuers also worked on Sunday in the Syunik province of Armenia evacuating passengers of an aerial tramway in Halidzor that stopped 18 meters above the gorge as a consequence of bad weather. It took rescuers about four hours to evacuate all 41 passengers from the two cableway cars. Rescuers were also involved in another accident in which an elevator fell down the shaft in a newly constructed building in Yerevan killing two and injuring one person.
