The ministry of culture of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic has moved from capital Stepanakert to nearby Shushi in a move that President Bako Sahakyan said would boost the development of the town.
According to the Head Information Department of the NKR President, at the Sunday opening ceremony attended by top officials of the unrecognized Armenian republic as well as head of the local diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church Abp. Pargev Martirosyan, the Karabakh leader also described the location of different government agencies in Shushi as a stimulus to promote the conservation of historical buildings in the town.
Shushi, which is situated about 10 kilometers to the south of capital Stepanakert and has a population of about 3,000, is regarded as Karabakh's old cultural capital.
