Yerevan mayor Taron Margaryan congratulated all young people on the International Youth Day. On his Facebook page, the mayor stressed the active and worthy contribution of the young people to the development and progress of Armenia's capital Yerevan.
He said the role of the youth is extremely important in the period of quick changes and developments, as the youth is the force able to respond operatively to any challenges.
On 17 December 1999, in its resolution 54/120, the United Nations General Assembly endorsed the recommendation made by the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth (Lisbon, 8-12 August 1998) that 12 August be declared International Youth Day.
