Vahe Avetyan action group calls on Armenia=?UTF-8?B?4oCZ?=s public to set up tribunal

The Vahe Avetyan murder case is not being fairly investigated. Larisa Alverdyan, a member of the Vahe Avetyan action group, told journalists on Monday. She pointed out the need for setting up public tribunal."No one in Armenia trusts the public prosecution system. They drop the prosecution just before our eyes, sweeping cases under the rug. So we are calling on all the people with professional skills and civil courage to champion the formation of public tribunal to inform the public of the facts of the case," Alaverdyan said. The group member Garegin Chukaszyan noted that, besides military surgeon Vahe Avetyan's murder by bodyguards of Ruben Hairapetyan, owner of the notorious Harsnaqar restaurant and MP of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), the public is now witnessing one more crime, namely, attempts to "sweep the case under the rug.""Disrespect for the injured party was the beginning. It was just 40 days after the murder that they were recognized as legal successors. Also, forensic pathologists' overtly biased attitude aimed at concealing facts of the crime, which, in turn, impedes the work of the injured party's lawyers work," Chukaszyan said. One of the mains functions of the public tribunal must be disclosing the crimes committed by government officials and their henchmen, supervising judicial bodies and officials, defending victims, publicizing expert, public and politician assessments. The action group demands a fair and comprehensive investigation of the Vahe Avetyan murder case, punishment of all the persons charged with causing fatal injuries to Vahe Avetyan and heavy bodily injuries to his friends. Moreover, the group demands that the relevant officials be warned of their personal responsibility for any attempts to hush up the affair.
