Constantinople Armenians ready to help Syrian Armenians

Armenians of Constantinople are ready to help the Armenians appeared in complicated situation in Syria, Agos newspaper reported.
 
Though clashes do not take place in the Armenian-populated districts the situation there is tense. According to the newspaper, the Syrian-Armenians are facing threat and in this situation the Turkish-Armenian community cannot be indifferent. Patriarchate’s Spiritual Council Chairman Tatul Anushyan stated that they are not going to avoid the responsibility in front of Syrian Armenians.
 
During the liturgy served in the Armenian churches in Turkey the Armenian community representatives prayed for peace in Syria. Agos spoke with some of them who voiced readiness to help their relatives living in Syria.
 
Surp Hovhannes Church Foundation head Harutyun Sanlı said they are obliged to do everything possible for the Syrian Armenian community.
 
"We can host them in Istanbul, supply with necessary food. Assistance to the Syrian-Armenian community is our debt. Turkish Armenians helped their compatriots as well during the war in Iraq," he said.
 
Chairman of St. Cross seminary Foundation Murad Berberoglu said they want the war to end. "During this period all the Armenians will stretch the hand of assistance to Syrian Armenians," he said.
