Police: Law enforcement stepped in to stave off “undesirable=?UTF-8?B?4oCd?= consequences at Harsnakar

The Armenian Police say their officers were performing their functions in dealing with the situation near the Harsnakar restaurant and in doing so managed to prevent "undesirable consequences".

"The Police are combating phenomena, not people," the national police force's press service said on Monday, as quoted by News.am, in reference to the use of force against scores of demonstrators who blocked traffic at a busy street in Yerevan the previous night after a failed attempt to stage a candlelight vigil near the restaurant in Yerevan's northeastern Avan district that was a scene of the deadly beating of an Armenian army doctor last month.

The death of 33-year-old Avetyan, a father of two, in hospital on June 29, 12 days after his brutal beating, caused widespread civil protests in Armenia.
