Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan has issued a decision to sack the deputy governor of Kotayk, Levon Mikaelyan, after the latter was caught red-handed in corruption.
Mikaelyan was arrested by employees of the National Security Service (NSS) on Friday while taking 40,000 Drams (about $100) from a headmaster.
According to a press release by the Service, Mikaelyan had periodically demanded bribes from secondary school principals while in office, promising in return not to launch inspections in their schools and threatening to create problems for them.
The NSS has launched a criminal proceeding. An inquest is under way.
