In case the Armenians in Syria face physical threats under the circumstances of war, the Ministry of Diaspora will be ready to do everything possible to assist them, the minister has promised.
"We will assist, through our diplomatic channels, in any efforts to stop the war or conflict situations if we are able to. But our objective is to keep the community there, not to split it apart by bringing them from Syria," Hranush Hakobyab told Tert.am on Sunday.
Asked what the Ministry is doing to help the Syrian-Armenians facing the fatal threat, the minister said that they working in that direction, though not all their activities are being made public.
"[Are you aware] whether the Syrian-Armenians agree that you write and speak about them? I work with the Syrian-Armenians all the time and do whatever they wish. I do not announce what I am doing," Hakobyan said.
The minister told our correspondent that the Armenians in the country prefer to remain untroubled by anyone as they predominantly consider themselves Syrians.
According to her, there has been no repatriation from Syria this year, most Armenians visiting the country to spend their summer in their historical homeland. The minister promised that there will be more Syrian-Armenians in Armenia in the coming couple of months.
She said 2,700 Syrian-Armenians have applied for citizenship, adding that every month a certain number of them become Armenian citizens.
