Robert Kocharyan not behind Prosperous Armenia

At his Friday meeting with journalists, Levon Zurabyan, Head of the opposition bloc Armenian National Congress (ANC) parliamentary group, noted that the ANC will give answers to questions concerning its participation in the 2013 presidential election in Armenia this autumn. However, he said that the ANC leader Levon Ter-Petrposyan has the greatest potential for uniting people to "overthrow the monster regime." Other ANC members share his opinion, Zurabyan said.According to him, other political forces are likely to support Ter-Petrosyan as a presidential nominee. "It's only natural that favorable conditions will be this autumn, and not only the ANC, but also other political forces will support Ter-Petrosyan, as the most likely candidate," Zurabyan said.As to the possibility of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) being among the forces, Zurabyan noted that they are all the forces opposing incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan. "They can unite round one joint candidate , and I think it will possibly be Ter-Petrosyan," he said. With respect to the PAP, he said, "the axiom is that a political force is considered an opposition one throughout the world unless it is part of the government."Zurabyan does not see Armenia's ex-president Robert Kocharyan behind the PAP. "Kocharyan has no chance of nomination. His hands are stained with March 1 blood. He is the father of the vicious system stifling Armenia now," he said.Kocharyan's only chance to become Armenia's president is to rig elections like Serzh Sargsyan. However, Sargsyan is controlling the mechanisms and is not going to hand them over to Kocharyan. In response to a question on a small number of participants in the ANC's latest rally, Zurabyan said: "People are surprised that so many people were brought to Liberty Square."
