A single shot pierced the air as Norair Bakhtamian stretched out his arm and fired across a vast expanse of unkempt grass and parched weeds at the barely visible target. He held the .22 caliber wooden pistol—almost an extension of his hand—steady and fired again.
The 41-year-old athlete from Yerevan is working hard to prepare for his third Olympic shooting competition in London in July and August. Though Bakhtamian now lives with his family in Los Angeles, Calif., he returns to Armenia for intensive training in swimming, cycling and, of course, shooting.
"I am very busy training five days a week," Bakhtamian says about his schedule before the Olympics. "People think shooting is just about shooting, but your whole body should be in good shape for balance."
