More Arrests In Restaurant Assault Probe

The Armenian police have made three more arrests in the criminal investigation into the weekend violence at a Yerevan restaurant that left three men, all of them military doctors, seriously injured.

A police spokesman said on Thursday that seven individuals are currently under arrest in connection with the severe beating of Vahe Avetian and two other doctors. He said five of them are security guards working at the Harsnakar restaurant owned by Ruben Hayrapetian, a wealthy businessman and parliament deputy affiliated with the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK).

Hayrapetian on Thursday refused to make further comments on the incident that has sparked media criticism of the tycoon and calls for a public boycott of his restaurant. He said that he will speak up only after the police investigation is over.
