Armenia's Ministry of Defense has voiced criticism over the recent violent incident at Yerevan's Harsnaqar restaurant, which left a military doctor in critical condition.
In a statement, the Ministry says that it strictly condemns any infringement against a citizen of Armenia, be the latter a civilian or a servicemen of the Armed Forces.
"The Ministry of Defense follows the criminal proceeding launched over the case and is confident that the culprits will be held accountable in all strictness of the law," reads the statement.
Major Vahe Avetyan, the head of the ENT Department at Yerevan's Garrison Hospital, received serious skull injuries after being beaten by security guards at the restaurant on Sunday evening. He was immediately hospitalized and underwent a surgery on Monday, but his condition continues to remain extremely critical to date.
It emerged later that the incident affected three other individuals, also reported to be military doctors.
Expressing solidarity with the aggrieved and their families, the Ministry says that it is not indifferent to the manifestations of such disorderly conduct in the society.
A spokesperson for the Armenian Police, Ashot Aharonyan, said earlier today that four people have been detained over the case.
