An Austrian-Armenian intergovernmental agreement has been signed in Yerevan.Armenian Minister of Finance Vache Gabrielyan and Austrian Ambassador to Armenia Michael Postl signed the agreement.The signing ceremony followed a joint news conference by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and President of Austria Heinz Fischer.The Armenian leader noted that the Austrian president is paying his first official visit to Armenia in the history of bilateral relations. Armenia and Austria are not only friendly nations, but also reliable partners, President Serzh Sargsyan said.The Armenian and Austrian presidents discussed bilateral relations and regional problems and expressed their willingness for further development of bilateral relations. Economic issues are also on the agenda of the Austrian president's visit.President Serzh Sargsyan noted Armenia is appreciating Austria's assistance to both the Armenian community and maintenance of Armenian historical and cultural monuments. T he sides also discussed implementation of energy projects.President Heinz Fischer expressed his satisfaction with the bilateral relations.The aim of his visit is establishing even closer ties with Armenia. Economic issues are on the visit agenda, an Armenian-Austrian economic forum being one of them.Armenia and Austria are also willing to intensify their cultural cooperation. Specifically, the nations want to establish air communication. Official Vienna attaches high importance to dialogue between peoples and religions, which is an opportunity for different peoples to peacefully communicate, President Heinz Fischer said.The Austrian president heard about Armenia when he read The Forty Days of Musa Dagh by Franz Werfel in school.The Armenian president is to pay an official visit to Austria soon.
