Three Armenian newspapers disturbed election silence?

ustify; “>On May 5, “election silence” day, the Chorrord Inknishkhanurtyun, Hayatsk, and Zhamanak newspapers continued election campaign, which is prohibited by law.

“That day the aforementioned newspapers published articles on the incident in Yerevan’s Republic Square with comments discrediting the Republican Party of Armenia,” Tatevik Pirumyan, Director of the Armenian Public Relations Association, told Tert.am.

In monitoring 16 newspapers from March 12 to May 5, the Association found signs of political advertising in the three newspapers. Lawyer Artak Zeilanyan told Tert.am that law envisages administrative responsibility. According to him, in such cases political advertising affects the voting right.

“Political advertizing on the election silence day may have consequences for protection of voting right. This is the major problem I do not consider resolved,” Zeinalyan said.
