Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, accompanied with Armenia’s senior officials, visited today Sardarapat Memorial on the occasion of Republic Day.
His Holiness Catholicos of all Armenians Karekin II, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, National Assembly Chairman Samvel Nikoyan, Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan, Police Chief Vladimir Gasparyan and other officials were among them.
They put flowers at the memorial to those killed in 1918 heroic battles of Sardarapat, Karakilisa, Bash-Aparan.
After the official ceremony, Serzh Sargsyan and people who accompanied him visited the exhibition-pavilions on the way to Sardarapat Memorial hill where residents of different villages of Armavir region's presented Armenian national-traditional food, traditions, culture, livelihood.
Sardarapat Memorial is a memorial complex to the Battle of Sardarapat located in the village of Araks, in the Armavir Province of Armenia, 11 kilometers southwest of Armavir town. In 1968 during the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Sardarapat that took place on May 22–26, 1918 a memorial park was laid out on the spot of the battlefield.
