The 122nd Session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe took place on 23 May 2012 in Strasbourg. The United Kingdom handed over its Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers to Albania, which will hold it for the next 6 months.
The next 123th session of the Committee will take place in May 2013 during which the Chairmanship will be handed over to Armenia.
According to the press release of the Armenia's Foreign Affairs Ministry, the May 23 session addressed the topics of securing the long-term effectiveness of the supervisory mechanism of the European Convention on Human Rights, the policy of the Council of Europe towards neighbouring regions, the Council of Europe reform process, human rights protection in Europe.
Armenia's permanent representative in the Council of Europe Armen Papikyan referred in his speech to the agenda issues, and expressed concern over the politically motivated propaganda of hatred in some member states of the Council of Europe. Papikyan called on the Council of Europe and the member states to be consistent in excluding and condemning such manifestations.
