A pro-government tycoon has added more controversy to the unfolding debate over holding televised debates in Armenia as he challenged main opposition leader and ex-president Levon Ter-Petrosyan to have a discussion on TV.
Samvel Alexanyan, an affluent businessman seeking reelection to parliament in constituency N7 that covers much of Yerevan's Malatia-Sebastia community, had earlier refused to have a televised debate with his immediate rival in the elections representing Ter-Petrosyan's opposition bloc, Nikol Pashinyan, who had vowed to unmask his lack of political credentials in a head-to-head debate on TV.
