Five cities to bid for 2020 Olympics

The five cities bidding to host the 2020 Olympics will state their cases for the first time at the Association of National Olympic Committees’ (ACNO) general assembly in Moscow today, AFP reported.

Bid teams from Istanbul, Tokyo, Baku, Doha and Madrid will all make 10-minute presentations in front of members representing the 204 national Olympic committees.

Many of the members present are members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which will ultimately decide where the 2020 Games take place.

Some of the candidates have sent big-hitting figures to the summit, with Baku notably represented by Azerbaijan’s first lady, Mehriban Aliyeva, and Doha sending Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, heir apparent to the Qatar throne.
