Doganay said Ani’s ruins are on the Silk Road – on the entrance from Caucasus to Anatolia.
‘Ani is a world, but the world does not have other Ani,’ he said, stressing that Ani was a crossroad of cultures.
The excavations were suspended two years ago. This year they will be conducted in the territory near Ani’s Surb Prkich (St. Rescuer) Church. Works on preservation of the ruins of the building will also be carried out.
The World Cultural Foundation has provided equipment for studying the cracks on the ruins.
