A number of journalists nominated as candidates for single-mandate representation in the National Assembly are fighting against their opponents at respective electoral districts and have so far made futile efforts at organizing political debates.
Editor-in-chief of 168 Hours newspaper Satik Seyranyan, running from election district 4, has been inviting her main opponent Republican Artak Sargsyan to a debate (Sargsyan is the owner of SAS chain of supermarkets), who however does not respond to the challenge.
"I am always ready for a televised debate with any pro-establishment candidate," she says. "The other candidates running from our election district – Armenian National Congress's (ANC) Aram Manukyan and Heritage's Zaruhi Postanjyan, who are also on their party lists among top positions; I do not consider the remaining two candidates Armen Epremyan (Armenian Revolutionary Federation, self-nominated) and Alexan Minasyan (nonparty, self-nominated) to be my opponents."
