Three of the children are in a serious condition, police were quoted as saying by Fuji TV.

According to police, the accident happened at 8 a.m. The children and the 26-year-old mother of one of the kids were walking along the side of the road when the minicar, driven by an 18-year-old man—who did not have a license—failed to make a left curve and hit them. The children were aged between six and nine. The mother, identified as Yukihi Matsumura, was 7 months pregnant and lost the baby later in hospital, according to Fuji TV.
