le=”text-align: justify; “>The Women’s Rights Center (WRC) drafted a bill on domestic violence and intends to submit it to Armenia’s government soon.
At a meeting with journalists on Tuesday, Satenik Gevorgyan, WRC lawyer, expressed hope that, after being submitted to the government, the bill will be put on the Armenian parliament’s agenda.
Experts drafted the bill back in 2007. The document contains a clear definiton of domestic violence, without, however, envisaging punishment. “For example, the relevant bodies register first instance of domestic violence and establish preventive control,” Gervorgyan said.
Armenia acceded to a number of international conventions on prevention of domestic violence, but they are not practically applied in the country.
