Turkey asks citizens in Syria to return

The Turkish foreign ministry on Friday called on Turkish nationals in Syria to return home and announced to partly halt its consular services in Syria, Crienglish.com reported.

The ministry said it would halt the consular services in the Syrian capital of Damascus as from 5:00 p.m. local time (15:00 GMT) on March 22, but the Turkish consulate in the city of Aleppo would remain open and carry on services “in current circumstances.”

The ministry also called on Turkish nationals in Syria to return Turkey due to security reasons in the conflict-hit neighboring country.

“Developments in Syria bring serious security risks for our nationals. Therefore, we strongly recommend our nationals residing in Syria to return home,” the ministry said in a written statement.
