Swiss police investigate if heart attack caused crash

Swiss police are investigating whether a bus driver suffered a heart attack moments before the coach he was driving hit a motorway tunnel wall, killing 22 children and six adults in one of Europe’s worst road disasters, Herald Sun reported.

The bus was carrying Flemish and Dutch teachers and students, mostly aged 11 and 12, who had just finished a week-long annual ski trip in southern Switzerland.

They were just 25 minutes into the journey on Wednesday morning when the bus veered head-on into an emergency bay about 20km outside of the Swiss ski resort Val d’Anniviers.

The bus was not speeding, the bus company had a clean record, no other vehicles were involved and it was believed that the 52 passengers on board were wearing seatbelts, police said yesterday.
