Status quo cannot be long-lasting – German FM

The current status quo over Nagorno-Karabakh cannot be long-lasting as it affects the entire region, Germany’s Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle has said in Yerevan.

Speaking at a news conference held jointly with his Armenian counterpart, the German official said the issue is highly important for Armenia, and called for finding new ways towards achieving mutual concessions.

Westerwelle reiterated his country’s stance on the issue, stressing the importance of maintaining parity between the principles of territorial integrity and the people’s right to self-determination.

He further referred to the statement adopted by the Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents in Sochi, noting that Azerbaijan often sidesteps its commitments after every meeting.
