Social package to boost medical insurance system, says official

The head of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Healthcare, Maternity and Childhood, Ara Babloyan, is confident that the compulsory social security package launched earlier this year will boost the medical insurance system in Armenia.

At a news conference on Monday, Babloyan said that around 20,000-25,000 people currently have health insurance policies in the country.

“Medical insurance was voluntary in the past and did not require large amounts, but it had a tendency to grow,” he said.

“We know the introduction of new technologies produces fantastic results. But on the other hand, the use of those technologies entails increased expenses not affordable to people with average and low income. So it turns out they are for the rich.”
