Russia=?UTF-8?B?4oCZ?=s incumbent president, president elect markedly different – Armenian expert

le=”text-align: justify; “>Vladimir Putin’s election as Russia’s president will bring about some changes in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, Richard Giragosian, Head of the Regional Studies Center (RSC), told journalists on Monday.

Russia will increase its pressure on Armenia, which, however, it will not have any serious impact on the country because, in contrast to the ex-president Robert Kocharyan, who had close ties with Vladimir Putin, Serzh Sargsyan has not such ties with the Russian leader.

Vladimir Putin and Dmitri Medvedev have markedly different negotiation styles: the latter would drink coffee or tea with the Armenian and Azeri presidents for hours, shaking their hands; the former will not waste time on that. Putin will press both Armenia and Azerbaijan.
