With more than two weeks left before the official start of campaigning in the May parliamentary elections, passions continue to heat up in the rivalry between the two current coalition allies – the major ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and its junior partner Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP).
Analysts regard these two establishment parties as the frontrunners of the election race commencing April 8.
Despite the memorandum signed in February 2011 by the three governing coalition parties, including the RPA and the PPA, to the effect that they would not campaign to the detriment of one another or seek to increase their political share in the parliamentary elections at each other's expense, in at least seven of 41 single-seat electoral districts the two heavyweights have candidates running against each other.
