Once Wanted, Now Wants to Run Again: Sukiasyan official declares bid for National Assembly

Armenian tycoon Khachatur Sukiasyan is among the first to submit documents to the Central Election Commission on the first day of the application process for the May 6 parliamentary elections.

A long-time highly pubic figure in Armenian business and political life, Sukiasyan was re-elected to the National Assembly in 2007, but has spent much of the past four years outside Armenia, after he was wanted by the state for allegedly threatening national security during the opposition uprising and subsequent deadly riots of March, 2008. In 2010, Sukiasyan, along with others was granted amnesty, however he has not had the public profile that he previously seemed to enjoy, and has spent time abroad reportedly for health reasons.
