Armenia's Minister of Foreign Affairs says Sunday's vote in Russia returning Vladimir Putin to the presidency will maintain Russia's role as 'an important' participant in the Nagorno-Karabakh negotiations.
"I believe the negotiations will continue as there are no alternatives," Edward Nalbandian told Radio Liberty. "Peaceful negotiations, which are Armenia's choice, are supported actively by the third states' co-chairs." The minister added that Russia has played an important role recently and it will be major mediator in future as well.
Under the presidency of Dmitri Medvedev, Russia stepped up its role, as the most active co-chair in Karabakh negotiations, including hosting meetings between the Russian president and the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
