An ethnic Armenian woman was killed in a bomb attack in Aleppo, Syria, on Sunday amid continuing clashes between rebel groups and the government army in the restive Middle Eastern country.
A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of Armenia said, citing a report confirmed by the Armenian Consulate in Aleppo, that the bomb blast occurred in the city's Sulemaniyeh neighborhood, which is home to many Christians. A woman of Armenian descent, identified as Arax Petrosian, was reportedly killed in the deadly attack.
The strife in Syria that has entered its second year is increasingly becoming a concern for the country's estimated 80,000-strong Armenian community. Earlier this year, Vigen Hayrapetian, a Syrian army soldier, was among the victims of a series of deadly explosions in Aleppo earlier this year.
