Leading by Example: Social benefits for public servants aimed at advancing culture of health insurance

A benefits package introduced early this year envisaging state-financed medical insurance of public servants is the first step in introducing the institute of compulsory insurance, says Ara Babloyan, chairing the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Healthcare, Maternity and Childhood.

"After talking about it for two decades we have finally made the first step that will further the development of this institute in Armenia," he says.

By government decree 18 billion drams ($46 million) have been allotted from the 2012 state budget providing social packages for 120,000 public servants, that is 132,000 drams ($340) per person per year.
