Delayed Delight: Fresh veggies/fruits will be 20 days tardy this year

Armenia's agriculture crop season is expected to be delayed by about 20 days this year, due to an extended winter, Agrarian Peasant Union of Armenia Chairman Hrach Berberyan said on Wednesday.

The "national fruit" usually comes in around mid-June, but is more likely to peak nearer to July this year. Armenians will also have to wait about three weeks later for fresh vegetables, and potatoes will mature in June, rather than in May.

Beberyan emphasized that the delay would be good for farmers, as it will likely avoid seeing frostbite in spring – a condition that in the past has been particularly damaging to fruit, including apricots.
