Armenian Genocide denial bill reflection of political situation in France

le=”text-align: justify; “>A bill criminalizing denial of genocides, including the Armenian Genocide, was part of France’s domestic and foreign policy.

But certain forces in France were doing their utmost to prevent the adoption of the bill, the political scientist Alexander Iskandaryan told journalists on Monday.

“There was very strong pressure by Turkey, as well as domestic political pressure. Obviously, there were forces supporting the bill, as well as ones opposing it, in France,” the expert said.

What happened reflected France’s domestic political problems rather than involved Armenia, Iskandaryan said.

“I think elections are approaching in France, and it’s time for lofty phrases, but the situation is difficult to change. Further developments will depend on the person to be elected president,” the expert said.
