The Football Federation of Armenia (FFA) says its recent decision to move the Cup tournament final to the newly renovated arena in the country's second largest city is part of a broader strategy to ensure a harmonious development of soccer countrywide.
Last week the FFA announced that the April 29 final of the Armenian League's second most prestigious tournament will be played at Gyumri's City Stadium that will also officially reopen on that day after a major reconstruction effort.
In an interview published on the FFA official website on Tuesday, FFA President Ruben Hayrapetyan said that back in 2008 the Cup tournament final was already played outside Yerevan, namely in Ijevan, so the decision is not unprecedented in that sense. Still, he reiterated that "harmoniously developing soccer countrywide remains one of the FFA's priorities."
