Some Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) are concerned that consumer rights protection in Armenia needs reforms and clear-cut changes in legislation.
According to Lusine Yagubyan, president of Protection of Consumer Rights NGO, laws are in force but not applied in practice.
"Article 23 of the RA law on Protection of Consumer Rights provides for a consumer's right to exchange a purchased item or, if necessary, return it to the shop," says Yagubyan, adding that shops should not be allowed to post "purchased goods cannot be returned" signs.
She says that consumers often complain not only of poor-quality and expired food and other products, but also of the impossibility to return purchased goods.
