Middle East Desert Sands Present No Threat to Armenia Residents: State Agencies

The dust sands noticed in Armenia today is not the result of any incidents, according to the RA Ministry of Emergency Situations’ Emergency Channel Information Center.

According to the ministry’s Hydrometeorology and Monitoring State Service, on Apr. 19 in the mostly desert lands of the Middle East, a very strong cyclone was observed accompanied by strong winds, as a result of which a large quantity of the desert dust spread to higher levels of the atmosphere. Since weather conditions in Armenia on Apr. 19 were affected by the warm southern tropical air currents from the Middle East, the air with a large concentration of dust is spread not only to Armenia, but also to Georgia and the southern part of Russia (see image below).
